Wywiad z Maxem Tundrą

(1) What is your favorite color?

Victory.

(2.1) Do you plan to put out new music any time soon?

No.

(2.1.1) If so, then what's it going to be about (fans are worried about your lovelife), and

(2.2.1) how fucking good is it gonna be?

Impossible.

(2.2.2) Are you losing sleep over the thought of elevating "Song for Alan R. Splet" to the level of a whole album [and

heh heh - that would take twenty lifetimes!

(2.2.3) do you like to use old material as basis for new songs at all]?

Verrrryyy occasionally. Usually unreleased stuff though. And rarely more than the odd noise or click.

(2.2.4) If not, then what other projects keep you awake at night?

Debt.

Are you ever going to produce a Kylie song? (2.3, transition to 3)

Yes.

(3.1) Have you ever been thinking about going into mainstream? Obviously no one would buy your stuff the way it sounds now, so

That is a very good idea (see 2.2.4).

(3.2) did you ever think about writing things that an average Westerner might find more accessible [including

Did Westerners ever think about finding my music more accessible?

(3.3) power ballads], because it seems pretty obvious

hmm - not really one for slow songs!

[(3.4)or does it really?] that you noo-pop hits are rooted in the synthesized ways of the 1980s?

Nah - not intentionally. I guess I was born in the 70s, so I hear more of that era in my music. But really, it doesn't sound like too many other people. There's a big 80s revival in the UK at the moment. I hope it ends soon.

(4) Will your attitude towards allegory ever evolve, the way your metaphors expanded to the point of being physical concepts (selling soup)?

I plan to get cleverer every day, but this is quite difficult!

(5) What TV shows do you like the best?

Wonder Showzen, Upright Citizens Brigade, Beavis & Butt-Head, Mad Men.

(6.1) Do you prefer studio albums to live shows and

Yes, definitely.

(6.2) are there any expections to the rule

Black Dice. Though they are amazing on record too.

[(6.2.1)like your own live album perhaps]?

Not going to happen.

(7.1) Would you like Facebook aps to work in "real reality"?

Ugh.

(7.2) Aren't you afraid of a cognitivist eruption of artificial technology or some other bullshit like that, which might lead into people being able to interact with material things via context menus, and all that is visible will have a tooltip?

More the opposite, that material things will disappear and all we'll have will be computers. Already newspapers and CDs are dying, maybe food next.

(8) Do you have any good ideas on how to pick up girls?

Tell them you know Max Tundra.

(9) We have declared "Which Song" the best single of 2008; do you remember how you came up with it and the way it was recorded?

Thank you very much - that is a lovely honour! The melody popped into my head one morning, and I spent several months planning the arrangement, writing the words, etc. Most of my songs take six months to a year to record. That song was a pain in the ass to record. In fact the whole album was an extreme effort, though hopefully pleasurable to listen to.

(10) Will you ever perform with a full live band?

Maybe one day!

(11) Is Paul McCartney the greatest songwriter of all time, or not really?

Not sure - possibly Merrill Garbus (tUnE-YaRdS) is the greatest songwriter.

(12) How much does Prince inspire you?

A little bit. We have the same birthday. His new stuff's pretty rotten though.

(13) Can you recommend any music that blew you away lately?

New Tyondai Braxton album is incredible. All the indie boys are treading the same "funky" falsetto eighties disco pop route, and he just throws this avant-garde classical curveball in there. The most rebellious, beautiful record of 2009!

(14) Is there anything you would like to say to the readers of the one Polish publication that hyped you as early as back in 2002?

W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie!
